She wore bluuuuuueeeee....gingham?

When I'm happy to wear blue gingham, you KNOW it's hot outside!!!  This is what I wore to work Monday.  Often, I'll change into this dress unbelted when I'm at home.  It's cotton lined with white cotton.  It's big and roomy and just feels great on my skin.

I've definitely shied away from oversize clothes believing that the most flattering thing for my body is a more fitted silhouette.  But lately I've come to find that the silhouette doesn't have to mean clinging.  For the most part I like the hour glass silhouette, but that doesn't have to HUG my body, just have the hourglass outline.  With this dress, a big honkin' belt did the trick!  What long held sartorial beliefs have you started to let go of and LOVED?  While there IS a fine line between getting out of your comfort zone and being something you're not; sometimes you just have to give something a try to know if will work for you.  THEN, if it doesn't work you'll know it's because you don't like it NOT because of a preconceived idea or fear of looking silly!  Give it a shot!

  1. You look super-cool, Serene. I try to let go of sartorial beliefs every morning, and try new ideas. Some of them will *never* be photographed : > Bloggers like you are very inspiring for new looks.

  2. I feel melty. When my honey comes home after a 10 hour day in this heat in Tennessee, he looks melty. I don't want to throw away time. But ah, September.

  5. Love the belt as the trick to nip in an oversized item. And gingham and summer just go together!

  8. You know, before I started blogging I wouldn't have belted anything that didn't have a built in waist of some sort...but I have tried this same trick and it makes breezy summer dresses fit the silhouette we want.
