A black dress and a big hug!

Dress:  Vintage, Thrifted; Shoes:  Leather Thrifted; Belt:  Nine & Co. Thrifted

Seems I just can't pass up a great black dress!  I thrifted this one a couple of weeks ago.  It's hand made and has a vintage label stating the name of the seamstress.  My plan, at first, was to sell it; but when I got home and tried it on, I just couldn't let it go.  I think is probably the beginning of a lasting relationship!

The fit.  The shimmering fabric.  The drapey style.  It has all the elements I love!  I'm thinking I can also wear it as a duster as well!

I hope all is going well with all my friends!  While I haven't been blogging much, I've definitely been creeping around all of your blogs.  Please forgive me if I don't leave a comment.  I'm hit and miss; but love keeping up with all of you!  Big hugs all around!

Oh!  And by the way, I gave up Facebook for Lent and I'm embarrassed at how hooked I've been to that form of social media!  I sometimes feel TOO much of an online presence and feel a bit of a need to take it down a few notches.  It's so easy to get immersed in the cyber reality.  I mean, let's face it.  Cyberly speaking, most everyone is nice, complimentary, and gives thumbs up!  What's not to love?  But I want to carry the best of what I get on social media into my real life.  "Like" people in person.  "Comment" to the person sitting next to me.  Be interested in the people that are in my life daily.  Between blogging, eBay, Facebook, Facebook for The Elegant Bohemian,  Pinterest, Twitter, Google+, Instagram and email; I can tell I lose sight of those people in my life that are most important to me.   I just want "online personality" to be at the end of the list of things that are Serene; NOT at the top of it!

Hugs again!!!

  1. Don't give away this dress...it looks fabulous on you! Love it! You do way more social media than I do...by the time I work, Tweet, and blog..I am exhausted. I have felt convicted that I don't really do Face Book the way it is meant to be done...but time is a huge factor. I don't know how others do it! Love you...have a great week!!

    1. Pam, you're wise to have determined that up front! For me, taking a step back is getting necessary!

  2. Definitely keep the dress - it's wonderful on you and I love the belt with it.

I don't do social media at all, and that's one of the reasons. I don't think I'd be able to keep up on it or I wouldn't be able to keep up on other things that are important to me.

    1. Gracey! I'm in awe of you! Truly! It seems that there are still a few who haven't hopped on the social media bandwagon, and I'm so impressed by that!

  3. I agree - Keep the dress, it's a classic that will last for years and will serve as a great foundation for layering, accessories etc. As for the social media, I think you have your priorities straight: on-line friends are important, but we musn't forget our family, loved ones etc.

    1. Narda, too true! I do love my online friends. But my family and those people who are in my face right now....that's where my priority is.

  5. Your dress is great, keep it! As for spending too much time online, I agree. I've had to repriortize recently, I cut back on blogging and Facebook, to focus on whats really important.

  6. You did the right thing by keeping the black dress for yourself, looks gorgeous on you. I like the whole look from the belt to the shoes to the dress. The shimmery fabric has a glam factor. You are right about the online thing. I kept myself away from facebook and twitter because i am already struggling with managing a blog.People around us do maters most.

    1. Mongs, I told Pam the same thing...you're wise that you figured that out before even starting with social media!

  8. Cute dress and shoes! I don't think "online personality" needs to be at the end of your list, since it is so intertwined with your business - maybe somewhere in the middle. (Thanks to you, I'm still looking for an aqua leather skirt.) Does Facebook generate much business for you? If it didn't send me occasional emails, I would forget I even have a Facebook page.

    1. Beryl....I do love my aqua leather skirt! I hope you find one for yourself! Facebook really doesn't generate much business that I can tell. Ebay has a built in marketing system that seems to do well for me!

  9. Very pretty dress and it looks just smashing on you. It is the kind of dress that can be dressed up or down and is perfect for any occasion. The perfect LBD!

  10. You were right to take that dress home with you - it's very elegant, especially with the t-bar shoes and the hint of gold on the belt. You are so right about the online thing too - a forced step back from blogging made me realise how much time it has been eating up and that I need to spend more time with people who are important to me offline too.

    1. Veshoevius, thanks...it's the elegance of the dress that I love too! I've also cut back on my blogging. While I do enjoy it, it's too much of a temptation to me to angst over making it "successful". And how silly and pointless is that?

  11. Yep! It's a keeper!! One of my favorite looks on you. I LOVE black...what can I say?
I agree with you about spending way too much time in the cyber world while neglecting the people around you. I'm taking my nieces to the zoo this weekend!

  12. This dress is definitely a keeper! I don't blame you for not putting it on eBay. I know what you mean about social media. I've allowed Facebook to become just a weekly thing before I deactivated my account indefinitely yesterday. I've been growing concerned about the amount of information available about me online and have been drawing back from it a bit. I'm also concerned about legal issues with Pinterest. I've read two articles now that makes it sound like pinners are held responsible for everything they pin...and this worries me.

    1. Terri, I'll make a decision about Facebook once the 40 days are over. I find myself drawn to it too much and like you, I'm a bit concerned about so much information about me being there, but a little more concerned about filling my mind with so much of everyone else's information! I've just recently read about the pinterest issue and I don't completely understand it. I don't understand what is the difference between posting pictures to pinterest and crediting the source and posting pictures to one's blog and crediting the source. Social media is starting to be less fun....
