NUETP: A Hand-Me-Down

NUETP (Never UnderEstimate The Power)

My aunt gave me this dress along with a bag of other unwanted clothes of hers for me to either sell, keep or donate.  The interesting thing about this dress is that it's not something I think I would have picked out for myself.  I mean, I probably wouldn't have even considered taking it into a dressing room!  I didn't think it was me.  But, hey, if she's just GIVING clothes away, I'll give it a shot!

And I'm soooooo glad I did!  It's easy to wear.  It's got a gorgeous print.  It's buffet friendly!  C'mon! Nuff said!

And since the dress pretty much speaks for itself, I only had to had my favorite boots (which, by the way, make everything look just a little bit better) and I had a great look that felt very "elegant bohemian".

Dress:  label was taken out, so I have no idea   Boots:  Nine West

And a couple of weeks earlier, I wore the dress as a blouse with my favorite leather skirt!  Seriously, if I ever had to make a run for it fast; I'd be grabbing this skirt on the way out the door!  I've also worn it here, here, and here.

Dress:  Same  Boots:  Same Leather skirt:  Vintage and thrifted

So the moral of the story is, hand-me-downs are good.   The price is right AND sometimes, it helps push you out of your comfort zone!

And if you're so inclined, check out my other NUETP posts here.

  2. That dress is amazing, it's a keeper! Somwtimesyou just never know until you step outside your comfort zone which is ehi it's always good to grab a couple things you normally try on before you head to the fitting room.

Also, that dress would look good with fringed anything :)

    1. Pam, I thought about that too! That's what I love about it....it can be worn as a top or a dress!

  5. If that was my size I'd send lots of money for it. I like that print and the fabric more than anything. I have a top similar and I'd wear it every day if I could. Yours makes you look beautiful.

  6. Wow.....did your Aunt have second thoughts about giving away that gorgeous dress after she saw you in it? It is incredible and you are a very lucky recipient. Love it styled both ways.

    1. Lisa! No, I don't think she had second thoughts. She says that as she goes through things in her closet, she puts in a bag for me all the things that she just is either tired of, no longer fits or that she's just not loving any more. So by the time she passed this to me, I think she was just over it! LOL I really do love it though and I love the kind of "mod" look it has with the boots.

  9. Neat dress! Buffet Friendly is funniest description - do you mean the print or the fact that it is loose around the waist or both? That skirt is also my favorite one of yours. You always look fabulous in it!

    1. Hey Beryl! Actually, my first thought was buffet friendly because of the loose fit, but as I was looking at the picture, I thought about the print and thought that it was food friendly too! Which is good for me, because it's difficult for me NOT to make a mess when I eat! By the way, I ALWAYS think of you when I wear this skirt! If I ever tire of it or it no longer fits me, it's headed to you!

  11. Serene, I LOVE this dress! I wish I had someone to give me hand-me-downs. In the past, I was always the giver. But since my sister-in-law turned out to be such a b*tch (oops, I actually wrote that), she doesn't get my stuff anymore. Goes to consignment, eBay, or Goodwill!

Actually, I really wish I had that dress for a baby shower I'm throwing next weekend. Would have been perfect!

    1. Vahni! That's funny (maybe kinda sad, in a funny way?) about your sister in law! LOL I'm a most fortunate recipient of my aunt's fabulous taste! When my mother was alive, I got her hand me down's too, and they were AMAZING, but alas, her size 2 clothes, just didn't fit with my Sz 10/12 butt! She has a tea cup butt while mine is more of the bowl variety! :) TMI?

I'd love to be at the Goodwill when you drop off your donations!! You've got some FABULOUS clothes!
