NUETP = Never Under-Estimate the Power
Picture it. You're an artist and black is your canvas. The beauty of this is that EVERYTHING works with black! And let's face it, there are just certain times when black is nothing short of PERFECT!
~When you have NO idea what to wear......wear black. It's ALWAYS appropriate!
~When you need to be dressy but don't have anything that will do......wear head to toe black with strong jewelry (especially silver!).
~When you feel bloated.......wear all black from the waist down and then a great color on the top....it will keep their eyes on your face!
~When you want to wear that really loud print skirt or top you just HAD to have, but have NO idea how to wear it......wear it with black...(loud skirt with black top or vice versa)...this will keep the print as the focal point without it being overwhelming.
~When you have a date.......wear a black dress.....you'll feel like such a bombshell vixen!
Truly, as much as I have grown to love color (Thank you Vanessa and Desiree!), I'm always drawn back to black. If I could wear nothing but a black pencil skirt for the rest of my life; I swear I think I could do it!
Is black a staple in your wardrobe or do you consider it too safe? What IS your go-to color?
Love your skirt. I thrifted a black leather skirt but haven't worn it yet for some reason. I need to get on that and hopefully I'll look as lovely in mine as you do in yours.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, black is definitely a staple in my wardrobe. As much as I love color, I love black too.
Your skirt is beautiful, I agree with you, although I usually opt for the colorful outfits or pastels, black is your best friend, if you run out of ideas just bring out the black and it goes with everything. =)
ReplyDeleteI bet you know what I am going to say here! Black is not a staple color for me--it's never been a color I have been attracted to. I dont look good in it! But I agree with all of your points and many women are very comfortable and confident in black. So you go girl!
ReplyDeleteYou look great in black. That is a fab skirt. You find such good things at thrift. I found a leather skirt in GW, but it was sise 10 - just about fit one of my legs.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty sweater too. I love that color paired with the black skirt.
Once I found Cheer with Color Guard, black became a bigger part of my wardrobe. Since I wash everything, black turned into grey right away with old detergents. Now I have lots of black. One of my favorites is to pair a black turtleneck with black jeans and an interesting jacket, like some of the ones that Debbi (She Who Accessories Well) wears. And I love black with camel.
ReplyDeleteThose boots are great! So is that skirt!
Gracey, break out that black leather skirt girly!
ReplyDeleteShey, you look gorgeous in color and you wear it so well!
Paula, I was thinking of you when I wrote this...black is one color I don't think I've ever seen you in. But you are great with putting your colors together! Must be the artist in you!
Debbi, I'd love to go thrifting with you! I bet you come across some FABULOUS things!
Beryl, YES! I wore something similar to that this week and was thinking that the black background made me feel like a paper doll and then you can put any number of things on top of it!
Fabulous skirt. It makes you look chic and powerful.
ReplyDeleteI am dying to find a black leather pencil skirt! And here you've thrifted one! You look absolutely fab in it and it's great with the blouse.
ReplyDeleteI adore your skirt, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteI WANT IT.

Sacramento, Thanks! I made those changes, and that was a great idea! You're the best!!!! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteThis skirt is so perfect, Serene -- it's a great basic, but has a nice edge to it. You look fabulous! xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteBlack isn't a staple because it can wash me out a bit, but I DO still have some key black items in my wardrobe. And when I pull them out-- yes, they can, indeed, achieve all the goals on your list. There is a great power in black! It's no accident that it's such a "go-to" for so many. Love the skirt!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out, Serene! You look lovely in black, and it's always an elegant choice!
ReplyDeletePERFECT!
ReplyDeleteI agree, black is my 'go to' as well.
