~color me bad!

Princess sleeves and stacked bracelets...the swirly ones were my mom's that she had for as long as I can remember, the 4 smooth ones are silver that I picked up at a flea market and the turquiose is one I bought for myself a few years ago in Black Mtn, NC.

One of the things I love about vintage clothes is that there was so much attention to detail, even in the most mundane garments.  This is a Totes rain coat probably early 80s, I'm guessing.  But look at the details...the mandarin quilted collar, the princess sleeves and the front pockets.  The color is spectacular!

One thing I'm working on for myself is to try to style myself in the manner that I'm drawn to.  I've said it before, I just love that easy dressing look....like it's not TOO made up.  I love the throw on and go look without too much fussiness.  Reading a wonderful book called The Power of Style by Annette Tappert.  I've had it for years and this is the second time I've read it cover to cover.  It's a compilation of mini bios of women like Coco Chanel, Elsie DeWolfe, Diana Vreeland and more.  Seems like what all of these women had in common was a sense of self and willingness to follow their passions.  They didn't follow trends, they SET them.  I love that about them and want to bring more of that into my own life!  Is there something you love (fashion wise) or wear that you feel like you're the only one on the planet that "gets" it; but you just don't care you love it so much?  Asking myself the same thing...seems like we should all have ONE style item that we're willing to be seen as foolish over because we LOVE it so much!

JACKET:  Thrifted Totes

SKINNY PANTS:  J Crew

SHOES:  Kenneth Cole (hand me down from friend)

  1. Wow, that blue coat is a work of art! It is simply stunning on you and in general as well. Beautiful and I like it with the black leggings.

I'm afraid I'm rather boring and don't have anything really spectacular that is just me, but I also just love simplicity in clothing...beautiful, yes, elegant, yes, colorful, yes but simple as well! Although I love beautiful detail. I don't think we see that on much of today's clothing.

    Have a wonderful weekend Serene!

  3. You're right about vintage clothing. They don't make clothes like they used to. (Boy, that makes me sound old...)

Plus, I like that you're mining the past for style-inspiration. We can find a lot of personal style looking back. I'm about to embark on a Sixties obsession and hope to find clothes from that era to create a new look.

  4. The color is electric! That's a raincoat with style. I think items with details are made these days, just out of my price range. I'll stick with vintage for now. You look great! -Bella Q

  8. Colleen, Thanks! I actually love simplicity also especially when it's combined with some drama!

Pam, Thanks a bunch...I fell in love with the color!

Shy, can't wait to see your sixties looks!

Bella, I know what you mean....there are some stunning pieces available today for some stunning pricetags. Seems like years ago, the detail was added without an over the top price.

Sacramento, Vanessa....I thought both of you would appreciate the color. You two are PROS when it comes to color!

Heidi, do you remember that group? They were so great! I think you still need to use the title....looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Great weekend to you all! Hugs!

  10. Serene--I love the belt over this coat and the color is gorgeous. Who is Elsie? I like the idea of a woman who sets styles/trends rather than following them.

  11. You're right about the color, it is beautiful and looks great on you!

My unusual fashion item is my hair. I wear it very long and don't cut or dye it at all. No one else gets why I keep it that way, but I can't bring myself to chop it off and start trying to look like everyone else. My hair is just my thing and I really do love it long.

  13. That's a great garment. It's true that clothes are made of poor quality so that they don't last. They're made to be thrown away!
