I made this dress out of a skirt that I thrifted. I thought that I might still be able to wear it as a skirt, but when I tried to this weekend, it just didn’t work….the waist was way too big and the straps did not want to lay down on the inside of the skirt. So I settled myself to the fact that this is one piece that I don’t have to have 20 different ways to wear it. I LOVE this dress. I love the color. I love the fit. The straps. The length. All of it! I just feel pretty when I wear it!
Speaking of “feeling”, I see a ton of blogs where the blogger wears some really short skirts or shorts; but they really don’t seem that short on them. But I can only go so short before I feel like a trollop! Even when I was younger, I really didn’t wear things that short. Do you ever see looks on other bloggers that you love on them, but when you try to do it, you feel ridiculous?
DRESS: Thrifted and remade from skirt. Remixed here and here.
JACKET: Thrifted
BOOTS: Thrifted
NECKLACE: Fashioned from a pin
So, Serene, what did you make the straps from. I have thrifted several skirts that I won't wear until next summer and had considered trying ribbon for the straps, but I worry that that won't be heavy enough.
ReplyDeleteAs for length, yes, I admire it on younger bloggers, but somehow the state of my legs suggests I should no longer do "short."
oh,no. you caught me at my weakness...short skirts. I love 'um but have to edit. I feel great, until I look in the mirror. But I always try and push it...
ReplyDeleteTerri, I made the straps from a belt that I thrifted. It was a heavy fabric belt and I loved the irridesent (I know that's misspelled) quality to it. I actually feel good about my legs, my sweet husband gives me so many compliments on them, I just feel so exposed. Believe it or not, I think there's a prude living inside of me!
ReplyDeletePaula, You rock the short skirts! I really love that you always push it and it actually works!
Serene, I really like two things here...your boots and the way you fixed your hair. I so wish I had your creative talents to sew and recreate a dress like this. The straps work perfectly. Short skirts are so far in my past...probably never to return. SIGH!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, other bloggers inspire me, but I can't always pull off what they can. It's still fun to try. Love that you worked with the skirt and made it something new! Great boots.

Love this homemade dress. I actually am a little iffy with short skirts, even though I'm pretty short myself. Sometimes I think I'm too old to wear minis, but I guess I'll keep wearing them til I can't pull them off anymore. Anyway, the color on your dress is perfect!

I do have a difficult skirt that is very pretty but so wrong at the same time. I shall try to do something like that.Did you get the straps cutting a pieces of the skirt material?????
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea!!! It does work!!!

Hahaha, I totally understand. I can not do short skirts or dresses. If you take a close look at some of my dresses you can see the crease of the old hem before I had it taken out. I don't think it's an age thing, more of a modesty thing. I know, funny, right?
ReplyDeleteGreat dress! Love the color.
aww, great boots! Looking sleek :D
ReplyDeleteHello Serene. . oh yes i love this dress. It is a habit of mine to reappropriate dresses into skirts and vice versa. . and you look like you're enjoying every bit of this. I love your hair this way too!
