Hello Summer, meet Fall!

Personal style isn't a stagnant state. It's in constant change and motion...certainly my style is. It's constantly evolving and changing. As I peruse an ever growing number of style blogs, I'm completely captivated by the personal style of these women. Some are eclectic, some are daring, some are bohemian, while others are creative. As I look at all these different styles (basically eleventy millions ways to wear the same 5 basic pieces of clothing - pants, skirt, dress, tops and shoes), I'm inspired. I'm inspired to rethink how I wear pieces that I have in my closet and make them fresh and most of all, keep them ME! With this outfit, which, by the way, is almost one of my favorites thus far; I was a little uncertain if I could pull off black tights with a light summer skirt. But I have to tell you, even though I'm throwing out my shoulder giving myself a pat on the back, I think I nailed it!!!

This skirt just refuses to be tossed aside! I thrifted it over a year ago, because I really was taken by the pattern. It's like a vintage handkerchief. But it was tight in the waist (NO MORE thank you very much! Benefit of eating better and staying consistent with my workouts) and I had no idea what to do with it. I've put it on ebay so many times, I'm surprised someone didn't pay me to take it off! But since blogging and seeing skirts used as strapless tops, I took it out of my ebay pile with plans to try it as a top. But then I came up with this today and I'm just totally feelin' it! Also, I'm all about layering on the bracelets. Can you possibly wear too many? I'm thinking you probably can't! I think this is an entire thrifted outfit with the exception of the shoes. My best friend gave them to me 2 years ago. They are Kenneth Cole and they had two big funky elastic straps that went across the top. Hated them! So like an successful vasectomy, snip snip.....them babies are GONE!

Top...... Thrifted (1?)

Skirt......Thrifted($ 2.50)

Shoes.......Gifted

Sweater.......TJ MAXX ($12?) It was FREEZING this morning...so I opted for another gray sweater!

Belt.......Thrifted (.25 cents - I think) It was FREEZING this morning...so I opted for another gray sweater!

A little Sweet Love 'cause that's what I'm feeling for my perty lil outfit!

  1. I can see why it's become a go-to skirt. That pattern is really lovely. (And that silver belt? I have two like it in gold that are two of my most workhorse-like belts! I wear them with everything!)

  2. Serene--this DOES work! I share your love for the pattern in the skirt. I tried a similar look in early September, but gave it a thumbs down on me. My skirt had a different weight than this one.

  3. The pattern in the skirt is really pretty. I also like how you paired it with black top and tights to give it a fall look.

I too find inspiration in style blogs. I think regular people are so much more creative than magainze spreads. :)

  4. Yes! Yes! Yes! That skirt is an absolute keeper and you've certainly nailed the look. I love the silver belt with this outfit and your silver bracelets. I get so much more satisfaction from seeing bloggers try out new ways of wearing a piece, than fashion mags - I sometimes wish I could reach out and give them an encouraging hug - so here's your hug! oooooo

  5. Vanessa..I can't believe this 50 cent belt has become a favorite! Would be GREAT in gold!

Terri, I don't think I was blogging then, I'd love to see that outfit on you!

Emmett...You are absolutely right about "regular" people. Magazines are certainly inspiring, but I'm not a coat hanger. I have curves and when I see real women mixing things up, I get inspired!

Socks.....Awwwwwww...I LOVE hugs! I bet your kids have a blast with you! :)

  7. Yup, you nailed it my dear! Love black or white top with a printed skirt! Puuurfect~

I remember Terri in that attempt~it can be tricky to mix the summer with the fall.

Too many bracelets? NO SUCH THING!
